Just woke up, posting, watching TV and listening to music =P
manga, anime artwork, online text based strategy game
Just finished watching an interview with Bob Geldof on TV. Very interesting to see the guy considering his cause thesedays. Last thing i saw him in was "The Wall".
Really? I haven't heard his name in a long time, what is he up to?
He's organised a series of 8 concerts across the UK to get people from some of the biggest nations in one place. The initial aim is to make a heck of money from these concerts to try and help Africa out of poverty, and the secondary (although more important) aim is to make a political stand against the big 8 leaders appearing at the G8 summit, and essentially try and make them contribute more to the cause.
Thanks to his influence, a lot of English people living near the coasts are going to travel to the shores of France and Germany, and bring them back to our country so they can be at these big events. Furthmore, he's encouraged people to make an effort to accomodate these people cheaply, or for free, throughout the duration of their stay. He's a really cool guy, and a lot of people are actually listening to him. Its a big deal right now in the UK.
Probably the most useful thing I've done today is that I vacuum cleaned the whole house.
I don't have to mention that my being enlightenned life today as well =P
Just watched a cool trailer about Guild Wars and Oblivion
I thought there were gonna be concerts around the world. Then again, he cant organise them all.
I wouldn't send one cent to Africa. Instead, I would send paid teachers and build schools and universities. It's little use giving them money as is, because all they'll do is to buy food, fuck some more, have more children, start more tribal wars, and keep dying of hunger once they're out of money, then repeat. In the end, they keep living and dying miserably, and we keep spending money. We have to teach them how to make money for themselves, and how to do something useful for the rest of the world so they get a constant flow of money. We can't treat them like they are 3 year olds. Remember the best social program is a job. Sending money is ineffective - it costs us a lot, and it helps them less. Educating them would be cheaper for us and way more helpful for them in the long term.
Think India. It looks like things are finally picking up and it'll get better in a couple decades. How so? Though education. Most of them are still poor. Some are dirt poor. Yet they are doing their best to get people to study and specialize. The result is India has now an unholy lot of software professionals, and due to its lower economic scale, it has become the world's #1 software outsourcing target. With their jobs, these people will be richer and have a better life than anybody we're helping ever will.
